3.1독립운동 제101주기와 유관순 열사 순국 100주년을 맞이하여 열사께서 1년 4개월(1919.5.20. ~1920.9.28.)동안 옥고를 치르면서도 감옥에서 독립만세를 계속 외치다가 모진고문으로 순국하신 서대문 독립공원(형무소)에 온 국민들에게 자주독립정신을 고취 시키고자하는 기념물과 사회교육자료로써 동상을 건립하였습니다.
지연사유
인허가를 담당한 서대문구청, 문화재청 등과의 협의와 승인이 지연되고 2019년 12월 코로나 펜데믹 발생으로 온 나라가 대혼란에 빠져 뒤늦게 2021년 12월 제막하게 되었습니다.
모금운동 배경
동상설립이 1년이상 지체됨에 따라 지원을 받고자 했던 관광서와 기업들의 지원이 어려위지고 코로나 펜데빅으로 인한 국가위기 상황에서 국민 모금운동은 사실상 불가능하여 전임 회장이 사재를 출연하고 은행에서 대출받아 비용을 충당했으나 일부 동상대금을 지급하지 못한 상태로 동상을 제막하게 되었습니다.
코로나 펜테믹 종식에 따라 모금운동을 통해 지급하지 못한 동상대금과 은행대출금을 상환하여 온전히 동상을 봉헌하고자 합니다.
